At transport logistic 2025, ALICE and the MultiRELOAD project hosted a lively session exploring how containerized IWT solutions are transforming bulk logistics, making it greener, smarter, and more customer-centric.

What’s new?

Developed by TTS, a new demonstrator is proving that inland waterways can serve smaller, more frequent shipments via pallet-wide containers - unlocking:

  • Hybrid land-water transport models
  • Fast loading (<10 min) & weather independence
  • 97.8% utilization on the Danube corridor
  • 6% lead time reduction & 40% CO₂ savings (vs. road)

With a CO₂ and cost simulator from Smart Freight Centre, shippers can now make better-informed decisions and plan for real modal shift.

The interaktive workshop tackled key questions:

  • How can IWT adapt to leaner, greener supply chains?
  • What are the enablers and blockers to scaling containerized IWT?
  • How do we turn innovation into viable, market-ready logistics?

Thanks to all participants, including TTS, ALICE, Smart Freight Centre, and the broader MultiRELOAD community, for helping push the boundaries of sustainable multimodal logistics.
